Baystate Health was again recognized as a Most Wired system by the American Hospital Association for leading the way in automating and integrating clinical, patient safety, and administrative functions to improve the quality of care given to patients. Making the Most Wired list places Baystate Health among the top health systems in the country for IT capabilities and effectiveness.

Baystate Medical Center, Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Baystate Wing Hospital and Medical Center, and Baystate Noble Hospital were all recognized as being in the top 20 % of hospitals based on an assessment of their performance in financial strength and reinvestment, cost of care, pricing, and quality of care.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – Platinum Level of Achievement

Baystate Medical Center and Baystate Franklin Medical Center are among a select group of hospitals and transplant centers nationwide recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for reaching Platinum level of achievement by conducting activities that promoted enrollment in state organ donor registries. Only three hospitals in Massachusetts received the platinum recognition.

 U.S. News & World Report High Performing Hospital

Baystate Medical Center was ranked the third-best hospital in Massachusetts by U.S. News & World Report ‘Best Hospitals’. It was the top-ranked hospital outside of Boston, and the only one in the state’s western four counties to make the list.  U.S. News uses data relating to patient outcomes, including mortality. The rankings — which include 504 hospitals — are based on comparisons of 5,000 hospitals across the country in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions.

Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence

Baystate Medical Center achieved Magnet hospital designation for nursing excellence for the third year in a row from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This distinction places the hospital’s nursing staff among the finest in the nation. Nationally, only about 7% of all health-care organizations are recognized by Magnet. Baystate Medical Center was originally designated a Magnet hospital in 2005.

GOLD-Level American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Beacon Award for Excellence

Baystate Medical Center’s Heart & Vascular Critical Care and Progressive Care Unit achieved a GOLD-level American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Beacon Award for Excellence. The award is based on sustained unit performance and patient outcomes that exceed national benchmarks. They were one of only three units to earn Gold in Massachusetts.

50 Top Cardiovascular Hospital

Baystate Medical Center was named a 2016 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospital nationally in the category of teaching hospitals with cardiovascular residency programs. The hospital has been named to this list for six years. The Truven Health 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study is an annual, objective, quantitative study that identifies the nation’s best providers of cardiovascular care, based on publicly available data and a balanced look at patient outcomes, operational efficiencies, and financial metrics.

Healthgrades [needs a TM] America’s Best Hospitals recognizes organizations based on clinical quality outcomes. As one of the 50 Best in 2016, Baystate Medical Center ranked in the top 1% of hospitals in the nation for consistently exhibiting clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of conditions and procedures for at least six consecutive years.

Leapfrog Group “A” for Safety

Leapfrog Group “A” for Safety
Baystate Franklin Medical Center and Baystate Noble Hospital have been recognized nationally for patient safety receiving an “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group. The “A” rating represents a considerable achievement; only 36 of the 58 hospitals assessed in Massachusetts achieved this distinction. Nationally, 798 (31%) of 2571 hospitals reporting date received an “A” grade.

AHA/ASA Get With the Guidelines®
Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award

Baystate Noble Hospital received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® -Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

Coverdell Stroke Awards

Baystate Mary Lane Hospital and Baystate Wing Hospital were awarded the Defect-free Care Award from the Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program for providing high quality care to 92 percent and 95 percent of stroke patients, respectively.

Baystate Franklin Medical Center received the Coverdell NIH award recognizing that NIH Stroke Scale assessments were performed on 100% of stroke patients from January 2015 – December 2015.

National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)

Health New England’s Commercial HMO/POS and Medicare HMO/POS both received the Excellent Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for 2016-2017. Excellent Accreditation is the highest status awarded by NCQA.
